Identify the procedure
ASTM D86-20 concerns atmospheric distillation of petroleum products and liquid fuels. Record the actual method and edition used in your laboratory. A different standard number should not be treated as interchangeable without checking the applicable documents.
Identify the installed equipment
Include the instrument manufacturer and model, the existing part number, the quantity required and the part’s function. If a drawing, dimension or connection is unclear, resolve that point before ordering.
Review temperature-measurement components, sample vessels and other accessories separately. A visually similar vessel or sensor is not evidence of compatibility. Match the part to the instrument documentation and the laboratory’s controlled procedure.
Separate troubleshooting from purchasing
An unexpected test result does not, by itself, identify the part that needs replacing. Preserve the test and equipment records and let the laboratory establish the fault or maintenance requirement. The purchasing list should reflect that confirmed requirement.
The cited edition is an example, not a claim about the latest revision. This guide does not supply universal dimensions, heating rates or operating temperatures.
